reasons-for-childs-constipation

What are the reasons for child constipation?

There are many possible reasons for childhood constipation. Often, some of the main reasons include:

  • Poor Eating Habits
Most of the time, constipation in children results from the poor diet. Eating foods low in fiber, like processed and fast foods or junk foods, a lot of sugary foods can cause constipation.
  • Not Drinking adequate Water
Water is an essential component of the body to keep the digestive system healthy by preventing the stool hardening. When the body becomes hydrated, the intestine steals water from stool to help hydrate the body which makes hard, dry and painful stools.
  • Use of Medicines
Apart from diet some medications also result in causing constipation. So, while giving medication to your child, remember that they might hinder a child’s digestive system’s ability to function efficiently and cause constipation.
  • Stool Holding Behavior
Many children don’t poop in playtime because they don’t want to stop playing and pass stools. If they are in the class, they feel embarrassed or afraid to ask the permission and use the toilet. Typically, toddler constipation often develops for social rather than physical reasons.
  • Bacterial Infections
There are some bacteria’s which cause short-term illnesses like flu or colds. These bacterial infections efficiently attack your child’s digestion process which causes diarrhea and often constipation.
  • Lack of Physical Activity
The body requires physical movements for the well-being of the digestive system. Not enough physical activity slows down the digestion process and encourages bowel movements to stick around instead of passing along the digestive tract.
  • Changes in Routine
While going on vacation or sleeping somewhere new, disrupts routines and usual bowel patterns. So, children will have an uncomfortable experience by avoiding going to the bathroom and resist the urge.

The longer you wait to do something about your toddler constipation, the harder the poop may get and the longer it may take to treat. Consult the best doctor for toddler constipation soon to cure and relieve child’s constipation.

How can I treat my child’s constipation?

Treatment for child’s constipation usually involves optimizing diet, developing good bowel habits, and occasionally using stool softeners. Treatment needs to be continued for a few months, to be effective.

  • Diet
Give your child two to three serves of fruits or vegetables, whole grains, and beans each day to help the body anything that is stuck. Make sure that your child is taking 4 ounces of Prune juice, or pear juice and drinking enough water to help relieve constipation. Also, lower the amount of dairy intake of your child until the bowel movement returns to normal.
  • Physical Exercise
Encourage your child to exercise more and be physically active. Get your child to run and increase physical activity to get things moving. Establish your child’s regular toilet routine to pass a poo, and properly empty their rectum.
  • Stool Softeners
If your child’s poo is very hard, you will most likely need to soften the stools. Use softeners and laxatives that increase the fiber in the gut. These softeners literally work to just loosen and soften the poop.

If your child’s constipation is still norm after all these changes, the case could be more severe and suffering from chronic constipation. Don’t worry our experts for toddler constipation are ready to help you and give better advice.

How to prevent fistula?

Anal Fistula or Fistula in Ano is an abnormal tunnel under the skin which connects the anal canal in the colon to the skin of the buttocks. Most anal fistulas from in reaction to an anal gland that has developed an abscess

Fistula causes and symptoms vary for every person. The most common fistula treatment method is surgery, though certain lifestyle changes help to prevent fistula.

6 Things to Prevent Fistula

Once you have a fistula in ano you will definitely need to avoid getting another one. Hence follow below tips to prevent fistula recurrence.

1. Eat a balanced diet

Taking care of your diet will keep the stomach and digestive system healthy. Simply avoiding fatty food, junk food, and spicy food will give you a healthier digestive system that is less prone to problems. Opt for an excess amount of whole grains, leafy green vegetables, and fruits.

  • Adding cereal food and fibers to your diet will aid in softening your stools and make the bowel movements easier.
  • Notice what types of food you are allergic to or that upset your stomach.
  • Fatty waste blocks the fistula tunnel and thus can induce the formation of a perianal abscess which is the major cause of pain for people with fistula in ano.

2. Drink More Water

Always it is recommended to drink more water preferably one and a half liters a day. Stop drinking alcohol instead, consume large amounts of water and fruit juice. This will help prevent the occurrence of constipation, which puts pressure on your fistula.

  • Excess water will make waste softer and clean the intestines, this is why if you drink excessive amounts of water you will need to enter the toilet more often.
  • Water also prevents the intestines from getting blocked especially with digestive diseases. For fistula patients, water will make pus more watery and thus decreases the possibility of abscess formation

3. Use Pillows

Sitting long hours at work is one of the fistula causes. So, avoid putting extra pressure on your back, butt, and legs especially if you have an anal fistula. This could be done by sitting on a donut pillow instead of a regular chair.

  • Always remember that your comfort is imperative. Try to avoid situations where you can foresee being uncomfortable.

4. Maintain good personal hygiene

Make sure to wash after going to the toilet or each bowel movement. Any bacteria remaining on the skin causes infection.

  • If you are outside and can’t do this, always keep wipes with you to be used.
  • Change towel each time you bath to prevent the spread of germs and growth of bacteria which can reduce perianal irritation.

5. Strengthen your immune system

Maintaining a balanced diet and eating food rich in omega 3s, and vitamin C like fish, olive oil and citrus fruits will help strengthen the immune system and decrease the levels of inflammation which may suffer due to a fistula.

  • Exercising, drinking more water, sleeping well are also great strides you can make a healthier you.

6. Practice Healthy Bowel habits

These habits help in lessen constipation and strain on the anal canal. Check these habits regularly to prevent fistula.

  • Give enough time to pass bowel movements comfortably. But do not sit on the toilet for too long.
  • Gently clean after each bowel movement and keep the anal area dry.

If your symptoms are consistent , consult our colorectal surgeon for safe and advanced fistula treatment.

My dream honeymoon is ruined. Because of a Fistula!

fistula-ruins-honeymoon
My honeymoon ruined by a Fistula

My fistula had ruined my honeymoon trip and a number of unsuccessful operations devastated my whole marriage life. Let me share my terrible experience with an anal fistula.

About an year ago, I got married to the man of my dreams and we were on our honeymoon trip in the beautiful Goa. After a couple of days, I started experiencing a lump inside my anus but ignored as I didn’t feel any discomfort. Later, the lump became painfully big and I had trouble even to sit.

However, I visited the general physician and was given random medicines which only relieved me from the horrendous pain. My pain in the anal area was getting worse and intolerable. On the other side, I was depressed as the situation has taken away all my happiness and hopes on my honeymoon trip. Even after one week, there is no improvement in the pain and so we returned to our hometown.

A few weeks later, I started experiencing some wetness on the right side of my perianal region which is pus. I thought it was some heat boil and looked forward to it getting healed soon. But, turned out that it just got worse and over time, I could see some stool coming out of the opening. I had to use sanitary pads everyday to avoid any embarrassing public situation. It developed into drainage of stool & pus with constant pain from both the external opening and the anus, which was annoying.

I went to many gastroenterology experts and specialists from the local clinic for infectious diseases. All they gave me were antibiotics, painkillers and sent away. I consulted a surgeon, he examined inside the anus and diagnosed me with complex fistula. He had a seton put in for 4 -6 weeks. I found the seton fairly comfortable but had lots of pain and pus discharge.

I have also tried homeopathy, no improvement then tried Ayurvedic medicines, only pain and abscess drain reduced but the fistula not cured fully.

Moreover, my surgeon inspected my anus and suggested me a fistula surgery. I have had countless surgeries including opening up the fistula tract in the hope of removing and ridding me of that nasty fistula. Unfortunately, nothing has worked and my fistula in ano remains as large as when I was first diagnosed. I suffered more than a year with useless operations and was really depressed and gave up all hope of ever getting better.

My friend suggested me the best colorectal surgeon, Dr. Parameshwara C M at SIICP Bangalore, to get rid of anal fistula. I had not accepted because I was traumatized by my last surgeries. But, when I was in pain, I just wanted to give it one last try by consulting Dr. Parameshwara C M.

Finally, I made an appointment & visited SIICP as my last hope to cure fistula in ano. The chief surgeon of Fistula examined and explained me about the FiLAC (Fistula-tract Laser Closure) surgery for fistula in ano,  the possible outcomes, and the success rate. Finally, I decided to undergo FiLAC procedure which was my 7th operation in a span of one year. I was under general anesthesia and the procedure is completed within 30 minutes and discharged from the hospital that very evening.

A few weeks after I have undergone the FiLAC surgical procedure, I noticed that the external wound became dry and the pus from the anus subsided totally. Now, it is more than 6 months since the operation, I didn’t find any pain from the rectum and pus discharge or any fistula coming back.  And, I really hope there won’t be any issues in the future. Also, I dreaded the sphincter damage which I read online as the side effect leading to complete loss of bowel control. But the doctor assured that this is a  minimally invasive technique & no sphincter damage would be there in any case.

I am so thankful and can honestly say that, I am totally healed from fistula under the care of Dr. Parameshwar C M, one of the best colo-proctologists in Bangalore. And, FiLAC is one of the best surgical procedures to treat fistula in ano, but the procedure depends on the surgeon. The surgeon needs to be well-experienced and requires right skills. I learnt that without appropriate skills, FiLAC procedure can be very painful and may not be successful. So, it is essential that the doctor be skilled, trained & experienced. Dr. Parameshwara C M has 18+ years of experience in the field of Coloproctology and successfully performed a number of surgeries.

I feel anyone suffering from complex fistulas should avoid surgical procedures done by quacks or unskilled surgeons. It is a fact that at Bengaluru smiles – a unit of SIICP, the doctors analyze the patient and examine how deeper the fistulas are and where they are positioned. And, then give the appropriate fistula treatment (Fistulotomy, LIFT, FiLAC, Ksharsutra) which is suitable for the patient.

Get the best treatment for fistula at the hands of the best colorectal specialists at SIICP. Good luck!!

How fistula affects a woman’s daily life

I had a highly complex fistula for 2 and a half years. Fortunately, I got rid of it completely now.

I am a 37-year old female from Mysuru city in Karnataka state of India. I had suffered for two years long from anal fistula with severe pain and constant pus discharge. The continuous wetting at the anal opening took away all the attention of my daily routine. I used to experience lots of pain and bleeding after every bowel movement. It was really a terrible time I spent with a continuous urge to clean up the anal area.

I was in extreme pain while I sit or stand and even in sleep, and unable to perform any of my household works. Thankfully, I could get rid of my complex fistula through the traditional Ayurveda technique – Kshara Sutra treatment. Let me share my my story here…

It was October 2016, I was diagnosed with anal fistula. I tried with several home remedies which gave me only temporary relief out of pain.  I had undergone fistula surgery, fistulectomy by an unskilled surgeon under spinal anesthesia in a private hospital. He charged me heavily but no improvement and the fistula recurred (Recurrence fistula) even before the surgical wound healed.

Fistula-Facts-treatment

After four months from the fistulectomy procedure, the surgeon again suggested for another surgery with no guaranty of a permanent cure. I could not dare to go through that procedure for the second time with a fear of damaging sphincter muscle further, which might lead to incontinence. Apart from consulting a number of surgeons, I even visited super-specialty clinics for anorectal disorders.

Also, I had a discussion with many Gastroenterologists, Homeopathy and Ayurveda doctors. They all prescribed me antibiotics and painkillers and said that I will be fine in the next few days, but my fistula didn’t heal. And my pain became even worse to handle. I was too much depressed with the situation as it has spoiled all my personal and official life.

A woman with fistula is too often rejected by her husband and pushed out of her village due to her foul smell.

Later I came to know that Ayurveda technique of Kshara Sutra procedure would be done at SIICP, Bangalore by a skilled and experienced surgeon to cure anal fistula. I went there and got the procedure done under simple local anesthesia by Dr. Parameshwara CM. He told me that the medicated thread (Kshara sutra is a thread coated with Ayurvedic herbal medicines) has to be replaced with a new one at weekly intervals. My sphincter muscle was damaged a bit because of the fistulectomy did by an unskilled surgeon. So, Dr. Parameshwara CM  performed Kshara Sutra procedure cautiously to prevent further damage to my sphincter and possible incontinence.

In that procedure, the thread was loosely tied and allowed a slow cutting during daily walking while the medicines coated to the thread also aid the process of healing. The herbal medicines also prevent infections in the area. I was sent home on the same day of the Kshar Sutra procedure. Later both ends of the Kshar Sutra was joined together and replaced with a new one a week later.

In my every follow-up, Dr. Parameshwar CM had filled me with confidence and kept telling me that my fistula tract was becoming smaller each week. I too noticed a reduction in pain and bleeding after bowel movements with each thread change. Not much food restrictions were imposed on me. No antibiotics were prescribed but only herbal medicines which are to be applied externally to prevent infections. The chief colorectal surgeon had advised me to be careful with fistula diet and prevent constipation.

A few weeks later, I was confirmed that my fistula has gone and I need not come back to the hospital again. Now, I am free from nasty fistula which to a greater extent taken away happiness in my life. No discharge and no constant worry and no need to visit the toilet at every possible opportunity to clean up my anal area. It is really wonderful.

I can honestly say that I am so thankful for the Kshar sutra procedure and giving me my normal healthy life back. I am very much pleased with the result and hospitalization and a team of SIICP for post-operative care.

From my own experience, the most important factor in fistula treatment is the doctor and hospital. You need to have an experienced colorectal surgeon to perform fistula surgery.

SIICP, Bangalore is the best place to cure fistula or any anorectal disorders . I hope it will go well for you too…

Fistula in a software engineer’s life

Hi everyone,

Myself Rahul working as a Project engineer in one of the top multi national company in Bangalore. Being a software engineer, all of my work involves prolonged sitting with almost 13 hours per day in the office. The only breaks I took were lunch and two bathroom breaks. I have always been regarded as the sincere and valuable resource to my team because of hard work. But lately, I have realized how this lifestyle affected my health and happiness to an extent I couldn’t imagine. Let me share my personal experience of suffering from complex fistula which became very difficult to stay with.
fistula-software-engineer-life

As I told earlier, I used to spend a minimum of 13 hours sitting in office with almost no breaks. In Dec 2017, I started noticing some discomfort in the rectum area but I ignored it thinking it was just some indigestion or constipation.

But later in one month, it got severe and I started noticing a pimple like a bump and an abscess coming from inside the rectum. And I was in extreme pain while sitting and any action which requires sphincter muscles.

Even after a touchable pimple and a severe pain, I ignored it. After suffering for more than 45 days, I started draining some liquid from my anus. The situation has completely debilitated me. I couldn’t sit for long and focus on work. I could see the decline in my performance. And so I decided to check with a doctor as I couldn’t sit and work at the office.

I visited the nearest doctor who I later found out was not a qualified doctor who treated with different treatment methods and gave strong painkillers. But the abscess and pain were not healed and drainage of pus through the external opening became much worse. Later, I had visited a general physician and there I was diagnosed with “Anal Fistula with Abscess”. Immediately, he cleaned a pimple, applied some medicine and gave me some antibiotics for 30 days.  Even after a month, the same episodes of pain and pus drainage.

As a third option, I sought the help of a gastroenterologist. He examined and mentioned it was high complex fistula and will heal in 6 weeks with his treatment. After a few weeks, I noticed that pain and bump next to the anal hole was increased. I was in a terrible situation which affected my job a lot. I was depressed and almost decided to quit my job.

Later, I got to know that fistula is not a call of a gastroenterologist because he is also just a physician and fistulas should be treated by a colorectal surgeon.

I have been searching for a< best colorectal surgeon, then a friend of mine suggested Dr. Parameshwara C M, a best colorectal surgeon at SIICP (Smiles International Institute of Coloproctology Pvt Ltd). Finally, I visited SIICP, the doctor told me about the complications with quackery. And, he explained  me clearly about LIFT (Ligation of Intersphincteric Fistula Tract)procedure and seton insertion to treat complex fistulas. Then I understand a seton is mandatory since the abscess needs to be open to be able to leak out. And seton is a good thing because it allows the fistula to stay open and keep draining.

The doctor recommended me LIFT surgery. So, I had the seton put into the fistula tract for a couple of months. Believe me, the entire Seton process was very comfortable and painless. However, after coming home I did have the rubbing pain with the seton. As suggested by the doctor, I used to do sitz baths to clean up after every bowel movement. I had pus coming out and had to change dressing 3-4 times a day.

In my follow up after two months, the doctor said I was ready for the LIFT surgery. Soon I was taken to the surgery room and got operated, then the doctor decided to do a fistulotomy instead of LIFT. He later told me that Seton helped the fistula to be very external and fistulotomy was sufficient for me to keep safe of any incontinence. The doctor did mention of having to take time off work and  managing diet after fistula surgery etc.

Within a week of fistula surgery, I noticed that my pain has been started reducing. After the initial postoperative pain was gone, I immediately felt the difference, walking and sitting became much easier. Also, I haven’t had an abscess since the day of the surgery. The fistula was healing well and almost 0% discomfort and the discharge has altogether gone.

The whole recovery took 2 months to get over. I felt lucky to get the best coloproctologist in Bangalore and also a speedy recovery.

I am so thankful for the whole team of SIICP for keeping me rejuvenated and providing me the best treatment for fistula.

I am very happy to say I am now fistula free and enjoying my job and personal life!!! Hurrah!!!

best-piles-treatment

It was an year ago, somewhere in the mid of April that suddenly I started experiencing a pain while passing stool. I thought it may be piles and because I was busy with my software job which includes prolonged sitting,  I didn’t care much about the problem but did few homemade procedures to cure. And, it was not even a week that I started spotting blood after every bowel movement which made really worried.

Day by day my pain became so severe and unbearable which made me fall into stress and depression.I was so sick and tired of everything and due to the pain, I couldn’t sit and work for an hour and couldn’t even travel .With this discomfort in my back passage, I have faced a terrible situation to move on with colleagues. And finally, I was completely depressed with the problem.

However, instead of wasting any more time, I fixed an appointment with my regular physician. After examining and understanding about my experiences, he immediately referred me to the best piles doctor in Bangalore as the signs and symptoms were serious. The anal area became red and swollen and the pain got much severe.

Within couple of  hours of surgery I got discharged from  the clinic with slight pain which is bearable and much better compared to the earlier. The doctor said the pain is  temporary and it goes very soon. He also provided the instructions for diet after piles surgery and medications to follow for one month. People Should Never Fear Incontinence After Piles Surgery

A surgery for piles can help many people to continue living normal and pain-free lives. However, a reason why many people in India are afraid of having piles surgery is they are afraid of incontinence or losing control over their bowel. Unfortunately, due to a large number of quacks in India who disingenuously promise people help against piles, there have arisen myths that piles surgery leads to people losing control over their bowels.

Such loss of control over one’s bowels is termed incontinence. Incontinence causes people to lose control over their bowel before they can reach a toilet and those who suffer from it often unknowingly pass stool in their underwear.

incontinence

Piles Surgery does not lead to Incontinence

An inability to control their bowels naturally causes those suffering from incontinence to feel ashamed and embarrassed. However, the myth that piles surgery leads to incontinence is simply a fabrication of truth that has been manufactured by quacks who promise relief from piles. Such quacks who number almost 15 lakhs in India have fabricated this lie to dupe those suffering from piles to seek their services rather than seeking the services of a qualified medical doctor. Quacks benefit from the promotion and spread of such lies as such lies scare people from approaching qualified medical doctors and colorectal surgeons who can actually help them.

Treatments By Quacks Have Led People to Commit Suicide

People who believe quacks tend to go to them for medical treatment yet often instead of providing patients with proper medical treatment; quacks perform a variety of mischief which they claim will cure piles. Such mischief includes placing the hogs of oxen into the anal canal of patients. Rather than soothing patients such mischief actually makes the lives of those suffering from piles worse. It’s not uncommon for many of those who are treated for piles by quacks to end up committing suicide.

Quacks Have no Knowledge of Anatomy

Across India, there are lakhs of quacks who promise to cure piles. Yet they don’t have any knowledge of anatomy or any kind of medical degree. It is for their benefit and for the success of their trade that quacks spread lies that piles surgery causes people to lose control over their bowels. This is not the case because successful piles surgery does not lead to incontinence. In fact, many people who have been treated by quacks actually begin to suffer from incontinence. As mentioned earlier such malpractice by quacks has led many people to take their own lives.

Quacks are fake doctors with no qualification

Unfortunately, the propagation of the myth that piles surgery leads to incontinence has become so widespread that many people living in India are afraid of the surgery. The misplaced fear of incontinence prevents such people, many of whom are educated, to not seek treatment from qualified doctors. Many people who have piles, fissures, or fistula don’t seek out proper treatment despite suffering pain because they fear doing so will cause them to lose control over their bowels. Such people have fallen prey to the propaganda created by quacks.

Treatments by Doctors Have Sometimes Led to Incontinence

To be fair there have been instances when patients who were treated by qualified doctors for piles, fissures, and fistula have suffered from incontinence as a result of the surgery, however, such instances are relatively rare and the doctors who performed such surgery lacked knowledge and expertise. A qualified doctor with expertise in surgery and with good knowledge of anatomy can easily perform a surgery that cures piles, fissures, or fistula. Under the care of a qualified doctor and surgeon patients have no reason to fear they will suffer from incontinence after a procedure for piles, fissures, or fistula has been performed on them.

Those suffering from piles or fissures may also benefit from changing their diet and lifestyle. Such people should add more fruits and vegetables to their diet and try to exercise regularly. If there is no alternative to relief from piles, fissures, or fistula except surgery, then the services of a qualified doctor and surgeon should be sought. Those who are treated for piles by a qualified doctor have no reason to fear that they will lose control over their bowels after a surgery. However people should never seek the services of quacks as rather than helping those suffering from piles, they are much more likely to harm patients.

How quacks use wrong methods/medicines to treat you

Quackery is a way of promoting medical cure which is scientifically unproven. Typically, quacks have no knowledge of modern medicine, training or qualification to treat patients.

The main reason of people visiting quacks is because of their attracted publicity gimmicks claiming a cheaper cure. However, many patients visiting SIICP often complain about their consistent symptoms even after consulting quacks.

Our chief of colorectal surgery encountered many cases who had suffered a lot and even dead with quackery. And so, he found SIICP(Smiles International Institute of Coloproctology Pvt Ltd) to eradicate quackery and save the lives.

Let’s discuss how quacks use wrong methods to treat colorectal diseases.

Here are the resultant complications arising out of the methods adapted by the quacks.
  • Wrong Injection at Wrong place

Injection sclerotherapy is generally considered to be safe. However, this technique needs knowledge of the anatomy of the region and the skill to inject, depth and direction of the affected anatomy. But the quacks know only a little about these anatomical facts. Misapplication of this injection results in bleeding, ulceration and various septic complications like renal failure.

  • Quacks and the Fistulous Tract

“Kshara Sutra” is an established and proven ayurvedic therapy to treat anal fistulas. This therapy is provided for the specialists who are well versed with the anatomy of anal fistula pathology. If Kshara Sutra is done wrongly by quacks and their treatment methods, it can cause severe pain, infection, pelvic cellulitis with progression to shock and death

  • Throttling Hemorrhoids

The way quacks treat Piles/ hemorrhoids is based on simple principle, throttle the mass to obscure the blood supply. Various threads, ligatures and banding materials are used in this method. Often the patient has to pass through severe pain, huge lump at the bottom, bleeding and other severe septic complications.

Quacks use medicines which might give you temporary relief for the moment but not a permanent cure.
